ABOUT SEX THERAPY

Visiting a professional sex therapist does not necessarily suggest sexual difficulties of any kind. Many people seek the services of a sex therapist simply to gain information on how they can enhance their sexual being and enjoy more from their sex lives.

Society does not always provide accurate information on how to develop our sex lives. The media and sex movies sometimes provide a very inaccurate picture of what love making should be like. A healthy sex life positively contributes to the quality of our life and vitality in so many areas.

Sex Therapy has evolved as a specialised area of therapy which focuses on sexual interests, behaviours and on the physical and psychological reasons for sexual difficulties.

Clients can explore, with a skilled therapist, the presenting issues and underlying causes of their sexual anomalies. With the implementation of specific strategies sexual difficulties can often be managed or overcome and replaced with more satisfying sexual experiences.

The problem can often be circular with relationship problems causing sexual tension and likewise sexual difficulties causing relationship problems. Therefore therapy often includes discussions on the health of the primary relationship.

Professional sex therapy is a strictly discussion therapy approach and does NOT involve touching or the engagement by the therapist in any form of sexual act.

We offer clinical support in a wide range of sexual areas:

  • enhancing an already healthy sex life
  • information on increasing satisfaction
  • therapy for sexual dysfunction
  • individual counselling
  • relationship counselling (heterosexual & same sex relationships)
  • sex therapy for the older population
  • sexual orientation
  • gender issues
We cover sexuality based issues such as:
· Sexual desire / arousal / orgasm difficulties in both men and women
· Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder
· Dyspareunia / vaginismus / other pain disorders
· Rapid or delayed ejaculation
· Erectile dysfunction or size of erectile factor
· Sexual abuse

· Sexual addiction (including internet pornography and other sexual addiction issues)
· Our ethos is – the older we get, our sex life should continue to be a rewarding and regular experience
· Don’t necessarily believe what the drug companies tell you – seek information from all areas, not just a ‘quick fix’, because usually things aren’t that simple.
